ACDSee Photo Studio for Mac 9

Release Notes

Build 9.0.2673

New Features

  • Face Detection and Recognition, find the humans in your photographs so you can name them for quick searching. ACDSee will immediately learn which names to put to which faces and suggest possible matches when needed. Save time and energy when migrating from Lightroom™ or Picasa™ by importing your face data directly into ACDSee.
  • Develop Presets, take advantage of easily accessible Presets and apply a variety of adjustments in a single click. The addition of over 50 new Develop presets – like Moonlit and Summer – will help you find your signature style; or you can create and save your own Develop presets.
  • Develop mode History tool, view a list of each step you took in Develop mode to reach your image’s current edited state. Keep an eye on each adjustment you made or click on a specific edit and take the image right back to that step.
  • Snapshots, save sets of modifications that can be applied to the image at any time. Save multiple Snapshots and experiment with different looks by easily switching between your Snapshots.
  • Filter Keyword & Category Lists, narrow down your long keyword and category lists quickly and easily. You also have the option to expand or collapse all keyword and category lists in Manage mode.
  • Info Palette and Histogram Pane in Manage Mode, use the Info Palette to easily view important information about your image such as exposure, dimensions, and file size. Get a graphical perspective of the distribution of light in your images with the new Histogram pane.
  • Metadata Removal, easily remove EXIF, IPTC and ACDSee metadata from your images with the click of a button in Manage mode.
  • Improved View Mode, new to View mode is the “Show Original” button, used to quickly preview what your image looked like pre-processing and get a better sense of what adjustments you’ve made. Preview image Snapshots you took in Develop mode, as well as access a handy Info Palette that has been added to the Filmstrip pane.
  • Improved HEIC Support, in addition to viewing HEIC files, you can now save files in the HEIC file format to allow for more compression and better image quality than JPG. ACDSee also now writes all metadata (EXIF, IPTC, ACDSee) directly to HEIC files rather than using an XMP sidecar file.

Improvements

  • Added options to view the Organize pane Calendar by Date Taken, Database Date, File Modified Date, or File Created Date.
  • Improved Video Thumbnails, get a better glimpse of your video with 4-frame preview thumbnails.
  • More Slideshow Transitions, turn your images into a captivating Slideshow using fun new transitions such as Water Drop, Crosswarp, or Dreamy.
  • Save As menu now remembers your last used settings.
  • Doubled the range of the Exposure setting in Develop mode from +/-2 to +/-4.
  • Develop presets can now be selectively imported and exported.
  • New Client Sign-up, use your Apple ID, Google, or Microsoft account to sign-up effortlessly and get the most out of your ACDSee software.

Known Issues

  • Image doesn’t fit display when app moved to another monitor and Full Screen enabled.
  • File List items are sorted by name if items are uncataloged and sort method is based on EXIF or IPTC metadata.
  • Find Duplicates tool doesn’t work with iCloud Drive.
  • Move to Trash will not work on images stored on cameras.
  • Batch Copy and Batch Move will not work for images stored on cameras.
  • PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) not supported.
  • Cannot read any ACDSee Metadata embedded in BMP, CUR, DDS, EXR, GIF, HDR, ICO, JP2, MEF, PBM, PSD, or TGA.
  • Batch Copy operation hangs when “Place in subfolder” option is enabled, “Date” token added to the Name, and date format includes slash character (“/”). Workaround: In System Preferences > Language & Region > Advanced… > Dates, remove “/” from the desired format.
  • Import ignores video portion of Live Photos. Workaround: use ACDSee Mobile Sync.
  • ACDSee does not support multiple clients connecting to the same database. ACDSee will become unresponsive if trying to connect to a database that is already open in another instance of ACDSee.
  • Watermark tool Center button doesn’t center watermark for all images in the batch if images are different sizes.
  • Startup time may be impacted if Image Basket contains many items.
  • Keyboard shortcuts assigned to commands that can be renamed (such as Categories, Batch Presets, External Editors) need to be re-assigned if command is renamed.
  • Writing a Spotlight Comment fails with error “Source file not found”.
  • PSD files cannot be placed on the Map.
  • Clone/heal effect is temporarily removed from view if you adjust Exposure or White Balance and image is RAW.
  • If the exposure of a clone/heal source point has been adjusted via brush or gradient, the exposure of the target point will also be adjusted.
  • Dragging keyword tokens from the Properties pane Keywords input field to the Search bar fails to return matching items if the keyword is hierarchical. Workaround: drag the keyword from the keyword list.
  • Color LUTs fail to apply if LUT size is greater than 128.
  • Writing EXIF User Comment to PSD or TIFF fails. Workaround: use IPTC.
  • Remove Metadata fails to remove metadata written by previous versions of ACDSee if filetype is HEIC.
  • Clicking the SendPix button still opens the SendPix website rather than the SendPix app if the SendPix app was just installed. Workaround: restart ACDSee.

Notes

  • It’s highly recommended to embed ACDSee Metadata prior to importing or restoring a database from a previous version of ACDSee.
  • When importing a previous version’s database, please ensure the previous version of the application is closed.
  • Importing a previous version’s database may cause the Date Modified timestamp to update but does not modify the actual contents of the database.
  • Apps require permission before directly accessing files in certain folders and external volumes. Please allow ACDSee to access files when prompted, or as follows: go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Files and Folders, find ACDSee, and check the applicable boxes.
  • On first run, the Import Databases tool offers to import the default database of previous versions. If you wish to import a custom database you created in a previous version instead, please close the Import Databases dialog and then use the Restore Database tool (in the Tools menu) and select the database you wish to restore.
