Beta 1 Release Notes

ACDSee Gemstone Photo Editor 12 Beta is only available in 64-bit.

New Features

  • MDI (Multi Document Interface) interface: Have multiple documents open at once; view or edit in a split view or child view.
  • Full layered editor: Achieve complex adjustments and effects and go back to tweak them at any time.
  • Home Screen: Initial screen for starting new projects from templates, or for continuing previously opened projects.
  • ACDSee RAW: Dedicated interface for editing RAW files using Tune, Detail, Geometry, and Repair tools.
  • In ACDSee RAW added a Presets pane.
  • In ACDSee RAW added a History pane.
  • RAW support for over 500 camera models.
  • Linking and unlinking masks.
  • Introduced Color Wheel.
  • Introduced Tone Wheels.
  • Added text on a path.
  • Added text in a frame.
  • Added Refine Selection.
  • Added GoPro .GPR file support.


  • Move and Crop tools are now non-destructive.
  • You can now Rotate to Crop.
  • You can now pan an image without needing to zoom in.
  • Improved watermark with relative positioning.
  • Added more lens correction profiles.

Performance Improvements

  • Big performance gains when working with large and complex documents.
  • Faster application startup.
  • Faster RAW decoding performance.

Known Issues 

  • APD file opens as a flat image, not a project file.
  • Gemstone uses the base layer’s color profile for additional layers.
  • Masks cannot be added when using the Move tool.
  • Added watermarks result in incorrect image previews in certain scenarios.
  • Cannot open Read Only Files in Gemstone.
  • Loading files into a layer stack will force the Canvas Size of the first image onto all images in the stack.
  • An image cannot be edited if it is the only image open in Gemstone and teared off into its own window.
  • Some filters have a blue status changed icon when no changes were made to the image.
  • Opening multiple images at once in Gemstone from File Explorer causes multiple instances of Gemstone to open.
  • The following four features have been disabled for the Beta 1 release:
    • Document | Color Depth
    • Layer | Frequency Separation
    • Tools | Create LUT
    • View | Soft Proofing

Not Supported 

  • Gemstone 12 does not preserve layers when editing PSD and TIFF files.
  • .acdc files created in Gemstone 12 are not supported in Photo Editor 11.
  • Compressed Fujifilm X-trans RAW and DNG are not supported.
  • Canon C-RAW is not supported.
